She is widely known in the United States, having published in journals from American Poetry Review to Massachusetts Review to The New Yorker. She has had two Fulbrights to teach in the US and been poet in residence at Bucknell University. Major poets have written about her: Mark Strand, Brenda Hillman, Tess Gallagher, Bruce Weigl, Tomas Salamun, and Michael Waters. Translations of her work have appeared with Bloodaxe, Zephyr Press, and Northwestern University Press.
Ursu is a dynamic reader, with excellent English, an inspiring witness to both the trials of Communism and the new era that has followed. Her latest book, Lightwall, will appear this March with Zephyr Press, Boston. Sean Cotter, the book’s translator, will read with her. He is a professor of Literature and Literary Translation at UT-Dallas, and has translated five books of Romanian literature. His work has appeared in many journals, such as Hayden’s Ferry Review, Massachusetts Review, and Conjunctions. The Dallas reading will be the culmination of a brief American tour.
Legacy Books will offer WordSpace members a 10% discount off all purchases that evening.
